There is also the wonderful Alpine Loop that takes jeeps and four-wheelers across the continental divide to the high country land of mountain Shepherds and tundra. Silverton and ghost towns such as Animas Forks are also along this route.
 
Of course fishermen think this is paradise. The lake and all the surrounding streams provide wonderful fishing. In September Lake City has a Wine and Music Festival. In winter there is abundant snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice climbing. The beauty and serenity of the forests at this time offer experiences to be remembered.
